CHRISTMAS DAY 2011

We stayed in Colorado this Christmas so we didn't have the stress of traveling and so we could enjoy Rome's first Christmas as a family.  We sincerely missed both our families, but it was fun to start our own traditions.  On Christmas morning, we woke up and started skyping with all of Rome's cousins.  We heard all about everyone's Christmases and what Santa brought them.  After skyping, we opened all our presents as a family.  You can tell we're rookies at this.  We have not one single picture of Rome opening a gift in action...but we do have video tape of it.  Oh well.  Rome got lots of toys.  His favorite toy, by far, was a maraca.  It fits perfectly in his hands and he loves the sound it makes.  It also came with a tamborine.  He also got some Baby Einstein DVDs from Grandma and Grandpa Ferguson, some books from Grandma and Grandpa Bostic, some keys (because he loooves to play with ours), a ring-stacker, and a play jackhammer, among others.  He was definitely a good boy this year!

After opening presents, we made a Christmas feast.  Chef Bostic had the idea to combine Italy and Oregon for our Christmas feast.  We had salami, prosciutto, cheese and crackers for an antipasto plate.  For the primi piatti (in Italy, you eat in courses...appetizer, then 1st plate (pasta), then 2nd plate (protein) and finally dessert) we had pasta with homemade pesto sauce.  Rome participated in eating some pesto and to my surprise, he loved it!  For the secondi piatti, we had Dungeoness Crab (comes from Oregon).  And for dessert, we had tiramisu.

After dinner, we had a family jam session.  I played guitar, Travis played the tamborine, and Rome played his new maraca.  It was a great Christmas for all of us!  I took in every moment, knowing that I've always wondered what this day would be like.  Here I am with the happiest, healthiest life I could have ever asked for.  I am complete.  Merry Christmas, everyone!

One of the maracas...you would think he's making this face on purpose ;)

And more...
Rome got his 1st toothbrush too.  It helps with the teething!

PRE-CHRISTMAS BOSTIC VISIT

Travis' parents and our nephew Zarius came to visit the week before Christmas.  We had a great time with them and are glad they could make the trip right before Christmas.  While they were here, we rented a cabin in Nederland for a couple nights so we could ski Eldora (the mountain just outside of Nederland).  We had never been to Eldora before and the forecast was calling for snow, so we were stoked.  And snow, it did!  The night we got up to the cabin it started snowing around 7pm.  It didn't stop until around 11am the next day.  We woke up to over a foot of fresh powder!!!  The mountain, itself, got 14+ inches.  Being the responsible aunt and uncle that we are, we thought it would be funnest safest for Zarius to take a lesson.  All kidding aside here, we really did think it was the best call.  Zarius got to be in a class with licensed professionals teaching him to snowboard with kids his age.  Annnnd, we got to go rage the backside of Eldora.  It was a win-win.  It was an epic day and one I'm sure we'll never forget.  The next day, Travis and Zarius built a jump outside the cabin and had some more fun.  We had a great, relaxing time the whole week.  Lots of snowboarding, sitting by a wood stove, good food and let's not forget the countless games of UNO!  Here are some pics to re-cap:

We took Zarius to Cheesman Park, and then to Ruby Hill to practice snowboarding before going to the big mountains.
He was a natural!

Rome even joined in on "Cat and Cow" pose

And anyone's first day on the mountain wouldn't be complete without a Scorpion (aka nose-dive).

How did I know that Travis would be the first one to use the "boo-boo" bunny?!?  We think he broke his pinky on one of the jumps...it looks pretty bad!

THANKSGIVING IN THE ROCKIES

Grandma and Grandpa Ferguson came to visit for Thanksgiving.  We had a ton of fun while they were here.  We had a great Thanksgiving feast by Chef Bostic then went up to Keystone for a couple nights in the mountains.  A few of the more memorable moments include:

1) Rome said "Ma Ma" (and meant it) for the first time.  We were on our way up to the mountains in the truck and he was getting fussy and he hit my hand and said "Maa-ma".  I, of course, stopped all the meaningless chatter happening elsewhere in the car to make the oh-so-important announcement.  Everyone was happy, but not as happy as I!  I know, I know, I'm going to hear that word a gajillion times in my lifetime, but the 1st one is gonna stick in my mind, that's for sure!

2) Laughing at how Rome cranks his arm up and down as he eats.  He likes to either do a chicken wing move, or just slap his arm really hard against his leg as he eats.  We joked that it must be how he digests the food.  Must be leg-smackin' good :).

3) Almost burning down the condo...twice!  The first night, we had stopped to get some ear candles because one of Mom's ears was stopped up.  She couldn't hear anything, which made it uncomfortable and annoying for her.  And, she screamed everything she said, or else was yelling "WHAAAT?" the entire time.  So, we decided to try an ear candle to get the wax out.  I had forgot exactly how to work them and so we started it on fire and then I blew it out.  Bad idea.  The room immediately filled with smoke.  I'm so surprised the fire alarm didn't go off.  Then, before leaving, someone had accidentally turned on one of the burners and Travis laid down the kitchen towel and all of a sudden we smelled something burning.  He picked up the towel and it was toast.  That was a serious close call.  We like to think we had them both under control, but we were pretty lucky regardless.

4) Watching Dad come down the last run of the day.  We can only laugh now that we know he's OK ;).  He did great the whole day.  He even had one guy ski past him and say "nice recovery, dude" after he did a whirly bird.  Well, the last run of the day, we were all tired and he had quite a trip down.  To his credit, the final run is quite steep!  He lost his one of his skis and skid quite a ways down before some nice guy brought him his ski and he made it down in one piece.

Here are some pics to re-cap:

HO, HO, HO!

We are having extreme winter weather in Denver.  It's been snowing all weekend, so we've been cooped up inside.  I decided to torture my little elf and stuck him by the Christmas tree for a wintery photo shoot.  Enjoy!

I think he just saw Santa Claus

Gotta love it when he smiles.  We have to coax it out of him most of the time, and he's caught on to the smile-for-the-camera thing.  He's getting smarter every day.  This is one serious elf!

Ah, there it is again :)

Thinking about smiling...
More thinking.

Okay, I tried to get creative and took his clothes off and put my white scarf on him.  It's a little too Elizabeth Taylor if you ask me.

And they called Frank Sinatra Ol' Blue Eyes...ha!  (I guess I'm in a 40's mood tonight)

The End.
